New Delhi: Bollywood’s shotgun Shatrughan Sinha and his daughter, Sonakshi Sinha will be felicitated by Dada Saheb Academy award this year.

Filmmaker Pahlaj Nihlani, trustee of the academy, said,"While Shotgun Sinha will be bestowed with Dada Saheb Phalke Academy legendary artiste award, Sonakshi will get Dada Saheb Academy best debut award in Mumbai on May 3.”

The birth anniversary of the doyen of Indian film industry Dadasaheb Phalke comes on 30th April and the award is an effort to recognise old, new talent in cinema.

"Shatrughan Sinha has been chosen for the award in recognition of his long innings in the film world and an equally successful run in politics," Nihlani added.

 Acyor Pran and singer Lata Mangeshkar were felicitated by the academy last year.

Starting his career in 1969 with 'Sajan', Shatrughan Sinha has worked in more than 200 hindi movies in a career spanning four decades.

He is known for his movies like 'Kalicharan', 'Dostana', 'Kala Pathar', 'Shaan' and 'Naseeb'.

He recently portrayed former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao in Ram Gopal Varma's 'Rakta Charitra' and he is also a Lok Sabha member from his native Patna Saheb constituency in Bihar.
