Bhopal: In order to expedite the investigation procedure into the Sheetal Thakur case, a team appointed by the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) will now question senior IPS officer, NK Tripathi.

Despite the directive issued by MPHRC to Bhopal Police, the administration failed to record statement of Director General, National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), NK Tripathi in the case.

Chiding police for its negligent approach in investigating the case, the officiating president of the MPHRC, Justice AK Saxena has appointed a team of two inspectors who will now record the statement of Tripathi.

Sheetal Thakur, who was an employee at Dewani Hospital was shot at and injured three years back on April 11, 2008. Though, Sheetal survived the attack, the doctors who operated upon her did not remove the bullet lodged in her body.

During the incident, hospital director Dr Diwani and the then Transport Commissioner Tripathi were present. From the beginning, Bhopal Police carried a negligent attitude in solving the case as MP cadre IPS officer Tripathi was among the frontrunners for the post of Director General of Police, MP.

Taking cognizance of the case, MPHRC, on April 28, 2008, directed state police to complete the investigation at the earliest.

The panel summoned SI, Habibganj after receiving complaint from Sheetal Thakur, who accused police of safeguarding Tripathi.
