New Delhi: While the movement of Anna Hazare may be proving a tough nut to crack for the Congress-led UPA government, it has come as a sigh of relief to the Delhi government.

The Delhi government was battling media attention for allegations of corruption during the Commonwealth Games 2010 in the CAG report. Adding to the trouble, the Bharatiya Janata Party had launched a vigorous campaign against Sheila Dikshit-led state government.

Chief Minister called a routine meeting of the state Cabinet on Tuesday to hold an unofficial discussion on the campaign of Anna Hazare. Dikshit discussed the political and social situation in the capital but maintained a distance on the Anna issue.

A state Minister admitted that the media attention has shifted to Anna’s movement which has provided much relief to the government of Delhi.

A senior bureaucrat said, “Though it has provided a temporary relief from the Indian media, the work is in full swing to respond to the CAG report.”

For the record, the Delhi government had alienated itself from the police cane-charge during Ramdev’s protest in Ramlila Maidan, leaving the Centre to face the criticism.
