New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikhsit on Tuesday met newly appointed Lt Governor of national capital Najeeb Jung and congratulate him.

Dikshit, who was accompanied by Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit and Delhi Chief Secretary Deepak Mohan Spolia, met Jung at his office in Jamia Millia University.

Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia University and a seasoned bureaucrat Najeeb Jung was on Monday appointed the new Lt Governor of Delhi. According to a communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, 62-year-old Jung becomes the 20th Lt Governor of the national capital replacing two-time Tejendra Khanna who had an eventful stint from April 2007.

Speaking to media, Jung thanked the Delhi Chief Minister saying, “She is the Chief Minister of Delhi for last 15 years…I was appointed Lt Governor of national capital only 18 hours ago… She came here only to congratulate me. This signifies what kind of personality she is having.”

“Our aim is to strengthen the law and order across the state,” he added.

An IAS officer of 1973 batch from Madhya Pradesh cadre, Jung has served in various capacities for 22 years. He worked as Senior Advisor for seven years at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Jung was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia in 2009.
