Around 2,000 students from various colleges of Delhi and NCR enjoyed the array of events like fashion show, group dance, solo singing and Mr and Ms Kshitij.

But the extra zing was added to the gala by Shibani Kashyap who enthralled the audience with her popular numbers ‘Soneya’, ‘Zinda Hoon Main’ and many more.

On a candid chat with Shibani Kashyap, the singer talks about her upcoming projects and more.

Excerpts from the interview:

Despite the raging success of your debut album ‘Ho Gayi Hai Mohabbat’ (1998) and equally acclaimed compositions like ‘Sajna Aa Bhi Jaa’ for film ‘Waisa Bhi Hota Hai II’ (2003), why don’t we get to listen to you more?

It is true that I have had raging success with my previous songs. The expectations of public are very high so I have to ensure that I always come up with path breaking music. Since I m a composer I have to spend a lot of time creating my own songs. But now I am back with my latest hit single with Mika Singh. The song called ‘Soneya’ is already rocking the charts.

Your favourite Bollywood male and female singer?

Currently, my favourite Bollywood male singer is Arijeet Singh. But my all-time favourite has been Kishore Kumar. Among the female crooners, I like Sunidhi Chauhan.

Don’t you think the pop industry is facing a bad time in comparison to the late 1990s? What could be the possible reason behind it?

Pop started dying when Bollywood started to use pop music in movies. Most channels now only play Bollywood songs and there is absolutely no support for pop music. But the good thing is that a platform like MTV coke studio gives a chance to independent artists and bands to reach the audience. But I wish pop music will make a comeback once again.

What advice would you give to beginners?

Beginners must try hard and keep making their own music. They can upload their songs on Youtube. Sooner or later they will be selected and picked up by some film or television show if they are really talented.

What are the five things that you cannot live without?

I can’t live without, my guitar, iPad, compact, honey and ginger.

How was your experience working with Mika Singh?

Mika is a very close friend of mine for many years. He is a fun person and extremely talented. Mika always inspires and supports his friends. Three cheers for Mika!!
