Ranchi: The furor created over removing the encroachment drive in Jharkhand refuses to die down. After the High Court’s refusal to put a check on the encroachment drive, the plight of the displaced common man has attracted political attention.

Therefore, to take a stock of the chaotic situation and review the performance of Arjun Munda government, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supremo and Jharkhand State Coordination Committee Chairman Shibu Soren has convened a meeting on Friday.

Soren has invited Chief Minister Arjun Munda, members of Cabinet and leaders of other parties to participate in the meeting.

Meanwhile, on High Court’s direction, contempt suit was filed against Chief Secretary, Urban Development Secretary, Deputy Commissioner and SSP of Ranchi, vice- chairman of Ranchi Regional Development Authority and CEO of the Municipal Corporation on Thursday by Ashish Singh.

Highlighting the dual policy adopted by Munda government during the drive Singh said government and other authorities have demolished the encroachment of poor people whereas no action has been taken against major business establishments. He also added, “The government’s action amounts to contempt of court orders."

Meanwhile, social worker Swami Agnivesh visited Ranchi in support of those displaced by the drive. After meeting the victims, he said Satyagraha should be the main weapon against the anti-encroachment drive. “I have come here as Anna’s man-of-war to support you in your fight,” he added.

Criticizing the state government, Agnivesh said the government should have made rehabilitation arrangement prior to the drive.
