New Delhi: Amid public outcry after the surfacing of a minor’s brutal rape in Delhi, Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal on Wednesday courted another controversy by saying that responsibility to stop such incidences does not lie on Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde.

Shinde blunders again, says rapes happen

Retorting opposition’s demand for Sushilkumar Shinde’s resignation over the failure of police administration in the national capital to stop crime against women, Jaiswal asked- if the responsibility to stop rapes lies on the Home Minister?

“Is it Shinde’s responsibility to stop rape incidences? Can he decrease the number of rape cases? His (Shinde) responsibility is to ensure that the police remain proactive,” he said.

Facing ire from public as well as opposition parties over growing incidences of crime against women, the Home Minister had on Monday landed in controversy saying that such incidences (rape) are taking place not just in Delhi but elsewhere in the country too.
