New Delhi: Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has reportedly annoyed the Congress leaders by his unexpected statement that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi were not aware about the Ajmal Kasab’s scheduled hanging.

Shinde had reportedly said that the UPA chairperson and his cabinet colleagues were not kept in the loop about the Kasab’s hanging and they learnt about the incident through television.

Though the Congress leaders are abstaining from making any public statements about the matter but all are of the view that the statement made by the Union Home Minister was childish.

Congress leaders believe that it will send a wrong message to the world that India’s Prime Minister is not a leader who takes decisions and that too at a time when the UPA is trying to improve Dr Singh’s image and presenting him as a strong leader.

Some Congress leaders are of the view that the Prime Minister not being aware about Kasab’s execution is technically impossible.

Shinde’s statement has snatched away an opportunity from the government of taking the credit for delivering justice to victims of 26/11 terror attack.

Both the party and the government are apparently embarrassed by the incident. If sources are to be believed, a message has been sent to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde asking him to abstain from making such statements in future.
