Mumbai: Senior Shiv Sena leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi put forth the party's demand that a memorial be built in honour of Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray, who passed away on Saturday, at Shivaji Park.

The sprawling ground already has a memorial dedicated to Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. "We want his (Thackeray's) memorial to be built here (Shivaji Park). The party wants his memorial next to Chhattrapati Shivaji's memorial. Why won't the government permit it," Joshi asked.

Bal Thackeray had launched the Shiv Sena from Shivaji Park 46 years ago and was also cremated at the same place on Sunday evening.
