New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Wednesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court, challenging the acquittal of suspended IPS officer R K Sharma and others in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case.

Journalist Shivani Bhatnagar was murdered on 23rd January 1999, lower court served a life term to Ravikant Sharma, Shri Bhagwan, Satya Prakash and Pradip Sharma They were cleared of all charges.

Whereas the Delhi High court cleared all the charges against Ravikant Sharma, Sri Bhagwan and Satya Prakash giving the three “benefit of doubt”. Only Pradip Sharma was sentenced for life imprisonment

Delhi police has stated that it has presented evidence which prove the murder of Shivani Bhatnagar.
High Court has said, “The evidences presented by the prosecution have not been able to establish relation between accused Pradip Sharma and other accused.

While saying this, High Court forgot that according to the section 120 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) says that if two or more people plot for an illegal crime it is termed as a criminal conspiracy.
Delhi Police has said that it is very difficult to provide evidence as to what was planned by the criminals.
