New Delhi: With the mandatory cable TV digitization in the metro cities from Nov 1, it seems that Doordarshan days have been revived. Over one lakh households which failed to install set top boxes, are left with no option but to see only Doordarshan channel or face blackout. This is happening due to immense scarcity of set top boxes in the national capital.

Cable operators were also seen helpless as they are unable to meet the demand for set-top boxes which are necessary for digitized cable signals in the national capital including other metro cities.

Devoid of any other option, people returned to the Doordarshan era and started watching evening news on Doordarshan. Doordarshan’s two channels- Doordarshan National and DD news are the only ones people were able to watch after facing cable signal blackout.

Progressive Party Chairman Jagdish Mamghai said that IB Ministry’s claim of 97 percent digitization in Delhi is false. He further added that more than 30 lakh household of capital were affected by this move.
