New Delhi: After being nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha, a Delhi-based social institution have asked the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar not to continue endorsing cola ad.

I won't shout in Rajya Sabha: Tendulkar

In his plea, the Delhi-based social institution wants him to stop promoting a leading cola brand.

As an MP, Sachin should be more responsible towards his social responsibilities.

"As a cricket celebrity Sachin endorsed the drink, but as a member of the Rajya Sabha, he should not endorse a beverage considered unhealthy for people," Arun Gupta, an official of the Institution said.

Citing the WHO’s report on aerated drinks, Gupta who is also a member of the Prime Minister's council on India's nutritional challenges, said that excessive consumption of aerated drinks leads to obesity, heart disease and other ailments to justify the demand.

"As a paediatrician with 37 years' experience and working on nutrition issues, I strongly feel Tendulkar should stop endorsing the drink in public interest," Gupta said.
