New Delhi: Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has issued a show-cause notice to the Jamia Milia Islamia for not filling the Elementary Teacher Education (Urdu) seat reserved for the disabled and instead converting it into general seat.

The Ministry has demanded the University to answer the notice within ten days which is effective from July 12.

Also, direction has been given not to fill the vacancies of the reserved quota for the disabled till the settlement of the issue.

Earlier, Dainik Jagran in its July 8 edition had exposed irregularities in admission in ETE courses.

Notably, an all India level entrance exam was conducted for the admissions followed by interviews.

The University converted three reserved seats, two for Hindi and one for Urdu, in general seats as according to them no disabled candidate could meet the minimum eligibility.
Dr. Ejaz Maseeh, Dean, Faculty of Education said, “Minimum eligibility was fixed for each reserved category. Reserved seats of disabled were turned into general seats only after not a single candidate could meet the eligibility.”

However, now the University administration has clarified that a fresh notification will be issued to fill the seats under the quota though the University would not cancel the admission of candidates who have taken admission in ETE courses against the seats meant for the disabled.
