New Delhi: Film director Shyam Benegal, who is known for making path-breaking films since the early 1970s, was honoured with Jagran Lifetime Achievement Award on Monday.

The award ceremony which took place on Monday, was a part of three-day long Jagran Film Festival (JFF) which had started on Saturday.

The award for JFF Best Actor, male category, was given to Irfan Khan whereas in female category, the award was bagged by Vidya Balan.

Tigmanshu Dhulia, who is riding high after the success of Paan Singh Tomar, grabbed the JFF Best Director Award. Filmmaker Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, known for his National Award-winning film ‘Lahore’, received Best Script Writer Award.

Speaking on the occasion, CEO-cum-editor of Dainik Jagran, Sanjay Gupta, said, “Our aim is to ensure the reach of these films to remote areas so that the gap between good quality cinema and it’s intended audience can be bridge. We hope to continue our work in this direction with same enthusiasm.”

Award for Best Debut Director was bagged by Chokher Pani’s director Sarfaraz Alam.

Actress Ila Arun, who collected the Best Music Director Award on behalf of AR Rahman, said, “I feel deeply grateful and very proud while collecting this award for Rahman sahab.”

The event was graced by the famous Surjeet Dance group as they showcased the different phases of the Indian Cinema through various dance steps to mark the completion of 100 years of Hindi Cinema.

Film director and screenwriter, Sudhir Mishra, film and theatre actress, Mita Vashisht, director, Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Chief General Manager (CGM) of Dainik Jagran group, Nishikant Thakur, vice-president of Dainik Jagran group, Basant Rathore, were the prominent dignitaries among others who marked their presence to grace the event.
