Singapore: Strengthening the bond between the two nations, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has strongly supported his India’s bid for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

In the lunch function hosted for the Indian Prime Minister, Lee said, India can bring about stability and development in Asia. He stated, “India plays an important role in Asia and owing to its rapid progress the accountability on the country has increased manifold.” According to Lee, a permanent UNSC seat to India is a justified move.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is on a two-day visit to Singapore, said “Indian government gives top priority to the relations with Singapore.

“Ours is a partnership that stands on the foundation of shared values of pluralism, secularism and democracy, and convergence of our perspectives on regional and international issues,” Singh said at a lunch hosted by his Singapore counterpart.

“Singapore has emerged as a valued partner for our ambitious plans for infrastructure development. It is India's largest trade and investment partner in ASEAN,” he said, adding “We welcome greater investment and technology flows from Singapore.”

Singh has invited his Singapore counterpart to visit India. The PM appreciated the efforts of Lee for supporting the establishment of Nalanda International University in Bihar.
He said Singapore became a developed country due to its improved basic and educational facilities.
