Ahmedabad: The role of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in the 2004 encounter of Mumbai teenager Ishrat Jahan comes under scanner as the Gujarat Special Investigating Team (SIT) seized some computer hard disks and documents relating to the case after raiding the lab recently.

Sources in SIT said the officials seized some computer hard disk drives and documents related to the Ishrat case and were analysing them. The raid on FSL at Meghaninagar was conducted on March 3.

FSL officers are likely to be questioned as to why these things were not handed over to the Gujarat High Court-appointed probe agency along with other evidence and documents.

The seizure assumes significance as SIT member Satish Verma, in an affidavit filed in the high court last month, had questioned genuineness of the encounter.

Verma had said there were illustrative evidences that suggested the allegation of the encounter being fake were well-founded. He had enumerated various scientific evidence that go against the version of the FIR filed by the city Crime Branch.

The 19-year-old Ishrat along with Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.

The Crime Branch had then claimed that the four were member of the banned LeT and were on a mission to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
