Siwan: An undertrial prisoner died on Sunday in the district jail in Bihar's Siwan district, an official said. The prisoner, Ram Awtar Baitha (40), injured after slipped into a drain and died on way to hospital, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) S D Mathur said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, he said.

A native of Baswanwa village in Vasantpur police station area in Siwan district, was arrested in a motorcycle theft case on April 16, Baitha said.

Meanwhile, CPI(M-L) activists blocked road near Babunia crossing for over an hour to protest against the death of the undertrial prisoner allegedly due to beating by the jail guards.

The police caned the protesters to remove road blockade.

CPI(M-L) district women's wing president Sohila Gupta demanded judicial probe in the death of the prisoner and compensation to his family.
