New Delhi: At a time when engineers and officials of Delhi Municipal Corporation are facing various charges of corruption, the Congress and BJP councillors are also not lagging behind. On Wednesday, eight councillors were suspended from the party following charges of taking bribe for illegal constructions.

In a sting operation conducted by a TV channel, six BJP and two Congress councillors were caught red handed demanding Rs 1 lakh to 3 lakh bribes for allowing illegal construction. BJP state president Vijay Gupta has suspended all six councilors -- Satyashwari Joshi, Anita Kohli, Ravi Prakash Sharma, Subhash Jain, Ajit Tokas and Manju Gupta, and has served notice asking for reply within three days.

Gupta said, “There is zero tolerance for corruption in the party. Stern action will be taken against those party workers and members who are found involved in malpractices.”

Meanwhile, the Congress suspended Jayshree Panwar and Bina Dholakia. State party chief JP Agarwal said that the party has no place for the corrupt people. Such party functionaries will not only disgrace their families but the party also.
