Munger (Bihar): As many as six persons have succumbed to a mysterious disease in Bageshwari village in Bihar's Munger district since late last night, according to a district medical official.

Three members of the family of Vinod Sao and as many members of his neighbour's family died due to the unknown disease, Civil Surgeon Mukesh Singh said.

Eight others with similar symptoms including high fever were being treated at private hospitals here.

Those who lost their lives were Rishi Sao (10), Khusboo Kumari (12), Sunil Kumar (18), Ramsharam Sao (70), Rita Kumari (18) and Kamali Devi (65), he said.

The authorities have deputed a four-member medical team in the village.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar described the deaths of villagers because of mystery disease as "extremely serious" and dispatched a team of expert doctors headed by the Principal Secretary to the State Health Department Amarjit Sinha to visit the spot and find out the reasons behind the deaths.

The team of medical experts comprised Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) Microbiologist Shankar Prakash, J K L Das, Vijay Prakash, N P Narayan and Vijay Kumar.

"Take all preventive steps to check the spread of the disease", Kumar asked Sinha.
