New Delhi: Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh along with five other boxers will represent India in the upcoming Asian Continental Olympic Boxing Qualification tournament to be held at Astana, Kazakhstan from April 5-12.

The selected boxing team will leave for Kazakhstan on April 1.

Apart from Indian star Vijender Singh (75 kgs), Asian Games Gold medallist Paramjeet Samota (91 kgs), Suranjoy Singh (52 kgs), Shiva Thapa (56 kgs), Sumit Sangwan (81 kgs) and Manpreet Singh (91 kgs) – will represent India. 

As per the Indian Boxing Federation (IBF), Sumit Sangwan has been replaced by Dinesh Kumar in 81 kgs category. Sumit has won bronze in World Cup and a star performer in Commonwealth Games, while Dinesh had represented India in Beijing Olympics.

Shiv Thapa, who participated in Olympics, will be replacing Akhil Kumar.

The Indian men’s boxing team was selected on the basis of selection trials held at NS NIS, Patiala from February 24-26.
