Hangu borders the tribal region of Orakzai, considered to be the hub of the Taliban. On February 20, at least 35 militants were killed after fighter jets targeted their hideouts in three different districts of North Waziristan tribal region. The air strikes were carried out following an approval of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.


This counter-aggressive from the Pakistani army came a day after their Army Chief General Raheel Sharif claimed that they were prepared and capable enough to deal with any kind of internal as well external threat. He also praised Pakistani security forces for their efforts in tackling terrorism in the past.
