According to a preliminary report released by the India Meteorological Department, a "slight" tremor was recorded at 6:28 pm in the area.

The quake had a focal depth of 26-km, IMD added.

A moderate earthquake had also shook parts of Uttarakhand's Chamoli district in the wee hours on April 2, jolting people out of their sleep.

There was no immediate report of any casualty or damage to property. Though the tremors were moderate, they were strong enough to jolt residents in places like Chamoli and Gopeshwar out of their sleep.
