Dubai: Soccer legend Diego Maradona is all set to train Dubai’s Al Wasl club as the Argentine has accepted a two-year deal to take over as coach next season.

“We have reached an agreement with Maradona and we will release details later,” a news channel quoted club vice-chairman Marwane Ben Bayatt.

Maradona has been out of a coaching job after he led Argentina to a humiliating defeat in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa when his team was thrashed 4-0 by Germany.  Since retiring as a player in 1997, he has endured tax evasion and drug scandals. He is still widely considered one the greatest soccer players of all time.

Dubai’s Al Wasl club is ranked fourth in the United Arab Emirates league. The squad has been without a permanent coach since Brazilian Sergio Farias was fired in April.
