New Delhi: Social networking is not only confined to chatting rather it has become an effective tool to help out people in crisis. As many as 5600 people of Jamia and its close by areas fall back on ‘Jamia Info’, a free of cost SMS alert service, when they need to share their information to fend off any problem.

Almost two years back, two students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) started a free alert service naming it ‘Jamia Info’ to connect all the JMI students and people around the University.

Almost two years back, two students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Hafiz Shakeel Uz Zamaan and Ahtasham Ul Hasan, began free SMS alert service to provide information.

Talking about his idea to initiate social networking of Jamia Milia University, Shakeel said that two years back he came to know about such an SMS alert service which could provide free information about Delhi NCR.

Shakeel gathered more information about it and found that Google provides a service of ‘SMS Channel’ where anyone can start own community by paying a paltry amount of two rupees once.

After that, Shakeel planned to use the Google facility for starting SMS alert services in and around JMI.

With each passing day, Jamia Info has become an inevitable part of the university community as it has helped out several students in many ways.
