Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Monday said the state government had sanctioned social security pension to 1,08,891 persons during the last four and half years and enhanced the benefit from Rs 200 to Rs 450 per month.

Every pensioner had benefited to the tune of Rs 3,000 annually from this, he said at a function during the inauguration of Rs 75 lakh parking complex at Kufri.

He also laid the foundation stone of science block of GSSS, Koti, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 56 lakh, and dedicated a Rs 60 lakh Primary Health Centre.

The government had raised the daily wages of workers from Rs 75 to Rs 150, benefiting each worker to the tune of Rs 27,375 annually, he said, adding that many schemes had been launched for the welfare of women.

As a result of efforts to politically empower women, 58 per cent of elected representatives to Panchayati Raj Institutions and urban local bodies were women, he said.

A Rs 64 crore 'Atal Bijali Bachat Yojana' had been launched under which four CFL bulbs were distributed to each household for saving electricity, he said, adding that the government was also providing subsidy of Rs 190 crores for providing cheap ration to all ration card holders.
