Solar energy is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's favourite sector. According to estimates, the country will receive an investment of about 2 lakh crore in next two years and more than five lakh people will earn their livelihood directly or indirectly through solar sector.

Under the leadership of Modi, the New and Renewable Energy Ministry has taken several new steps to change the contour of solar sector. The guidelines to setup solar power projects have been made in a fashion that could spur the companies to setup projects in rural areas, which will help the countryside to develop.

Unlike previous governments, which were more than satisfied by just setting a target of addition of 2,000 MW solar power in five years, the Modi government has laid the foundation of producing 1 lakh MW solar power in the country.

NDA Government's several new measures such as the announcement of setting up 25 solar parks, nod for setting up solar parks on the vacant land of Defence Ministry, connection of solar power with national grid, and drafting of National Policy for Non-traditional Energy will help India emerge as a major solar power producing country.

Besides that, the establishment of 25 Solar Parks in 22 states will also help India to produce additional 20,000 MW of energy in next four years. Solar parks will be developed in collaboration with state governments and till now seven states have given their nod for setting up these solar parks. Once implemented this will be world's largest project in solar sector.

Emulating Gujarat model, the setting up of solar panels on every canal have also increased during last few months which will provide another 1,000 MW solar energy.
