Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has distributed domestic solar lights among 2,055 families in frontier Gurez region of north Kashmir's Bandipora district, an official spokesman said.

The solar lights were distributed among the beneficiaries by state Science and Technology Minister Aga Ruhullah at a function at Dawar in Greuz, 130 kms from here, on Wednesday.

The Union Ministry of Renewable Energy has sanctioned Rs 9 crore to provide domestic solar lights under Remote Village Electrification Programme (RVEP) project to the people of Gurez area, he said.

"Under the project, 3,792 families of the area have so far been provided these lights," Ruhullah said, adding 600 street lights would also be installed in Gurez.
