The BJP raised the issue with Election Commission officials and seals were reopened, EC officials said.

The machines go through multiple rounds of checking and sealing in the presence of polling agents of various candidates.

However, some of the machines were found sealed even before the scheduled time. The election officials said the matter has been resolved and it was just an oversight.

Varanasi is set to witness triangular contest between BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress candidate Ajai Rai and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

Quami Ekta Dal’s Mukhtar Ansari has lent support to Ajai Rai to avoid division of Minority votes. Interestingly, Ansari had lost to BJP’s Murli Manohar Josi by a slender margin of around 17, 000 votes in 2009 from here.
