Amrita Sher-Gil was born to a Punjabi Sikh father and a Hungarian Jewish mother; she is also known as India's Frida Kahlo and considered to be among the most important painters of the 20th century.

Born in Budapest in 1913, she lived in India and France. She died on December 5, 1941 at the age of 29.

Sources say that the film will bring to light Sher-Gil's family, friends, lovers and mentors. Sonam Kapoor was not available for comment.
