"Sonam (Kapoor) was never officially approached for the film," Punit said. Produced by Karan Johar, 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' stars Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead. The film will release on November 22.
The 31-year-old director said Imran took six months to come on board for the project.
"I wrote the script keeping Imran in mind. But, when I took the film to Imran he refused to do it because he had some problem with the rural setting of the film. In the first narration, he liked my film,” Punit said.
Having started his career as an assistant director to Johar, Amol Palekar, Nikhil Advani and Tarun Mansukhani Punit made his debut as a director in 2010 with ‘I Hate love stories’.
Asked about his fascination for romantic films, Punit said, "Love Story comes naturally to me after my first film. But I promise that my next won't be a love story. I got so hooked on this story that I don't know how many drafts I wrote and finally decided one day to direct it."
Punit's next is a drama titled 'Gutka', which stars superstar Akshay Kumar in the lead. "It's a drama and it's a completely different film from what I have made earlier. It's too early to talk about it. We are at a very nascent stage now. We haven't finalized the leading actress yet," Punit said.
