New Delhi: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday launched a major food security programme of Delhi government under which monthly cash subsidy of Rs 600 will be transferred directly into bank account of the senior-most female member of two lakh poor families.

The UPA chairperson said that her government is serious about bringing the Food Security Bill in the Parliament. “UPA government will bring Food Security Bill in Parliament soon,” she said.

She said that the cash transfer is not only a scheme but a fundamental transformation of the delivery system. “Central government’s direct benefits transfer will ensure that money meant for beneficiaries reach right people without any delay,” she added.

“Cash transfer scheme has been introduced keeping in mind balanced development; UPA-2 has taken many such revolutionary steps.”
