New Delhi: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday in a letter to veteran social activist Anna Hazare assured to pass the contentious Lokpal Bill in the upcoming Budget Session of the Parliament.

The anti-corruption Bill was passed by Lok Sabha in 2011 bit in the Rajya Sabha, it faced opposition hurdle on various provisions, including the one making it mandatory for states to set up Lokayuktas (anti-corruption ombudsman).

Later, the Bill was referred to the Select Committee. The Committee has tabled its recommendations in the Rajya Sabha in November 2012.

The Bill, along with the select committee's recommendations, will have to be considered by the Union Cabinet. Once the Bill is passed in the Rajya Sabha, it will travel back to Lok Sabha for approval of the amended version.
