New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said Italy should honour its commitment given to the Supreme Court on the two marines, accused of killing Indian fishermen.

While addressing the general body meeting of Congress parliamentary party she said, “All means must be pursued to ensure that the commitment made by Italian government before the Supreme Court is honoured.”

She further expressed that the defiance of Italian government on the marines issue is a breach of the commitment given to the Supreme Court which is unacceptable.

The Supreme Court on Monday had asked Italian Ambassador Daniele Mancini not to leave India without permission after Rome's refusal to send back the two Italian marines Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone to stand trial for killing two Indian fishermen, off the Kerala coast on Feb 15, 2012, mistaking them for pirates.
