Srinagar: Unheralded L Satheeshwaran of Tamil Nadu stunned top seed Soumyadeep Roy in the pre-quarterfinals of the Northern India Table Tennis Championships here on Monday.

Sathishwaran got the better of the former national champion from Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) 11-6 11-5 11-9 10-12 11-5 in mens'singles.

Former national champion Subhajit Saha (PSPB), however, had an easy outing, beating Jubin Kumar 11-8 11-7 11-6 5-11 11-6.

In other matches, A Amalraj of PSPB beat West Bengal's Sourav 11-7 12-10 13-11 11-7, Sanil Shetty (Air India) defeated Souvik B Roy (Railway Sports Promotion Board) 12-10 11-4 5-11 11-13 11-9 11-5, Soumyajit Ghosh (Airport Authority of India) thrashed Anirban Nandi (RSPB) 9-11 11-7 11-9 11-2 11-7, Devesh Karia (Gujarat) defeated Noel Pinto (Maharashtra) 11-5 11-6 11-9 13-11 and Raj mondal (AAI) beat Harmeet Desai (Guj) 15-13 7-11 11-9 11-8 9-11 6-11 11-4.

In the youth girls'section too, there was an upset as top seed Pooja sahasrabhudhe (PSPB) lost to S Narasimha Priya (TN).
