New Delhi: After vehemently opposing FDI in retail in the Lok Sabha, the Samajwadi Party chose to offer an indirect help to the UPA dispensation at the Centre. Before voting on this issue in the House, the 22 MPs of Samajwadi Party on Wednesday evening walked out.

Speaking on his party’s decision, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said, “Government disregarding interests of farmers, small traders which are the reason why the party members chose to walkout of the Lok Sabha.”

Even BSP members also walked out of the House. With 22 SP members and 21 BSP members abstaining from voting, the required number significantly reduces to defeat the Opposition’s motion against FDI in retail.
