New Delh: The Samajwadi Party doesn’t agree with the government on certain issues nevertheless, the party has lent its support to the Congress led-UPA Government in the Parliament over National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) bill owing to some rationales it has put forward.

The SP saved government from facing yet another embarrassment by supporting the government’s stand over Motion of Thanks on President’s speech on Monday in Lower House.

It also continued extending its support to the UPA in Upper House on Tuesday.

But, the party itself seems uncomfortable with its decision and reasoned its support from outside.

According to the SP, it supported UPA to save country from snap-polls and to keep ‘communal’ forces at bay.

“We don’t want to support the UPA and mid-term polls either and always try to save country from communal forces, that’s why it’s our compulsion to support the government,” said party’s national general secretary, Mohan Singh.

However, on NCTC, the party maintains that it is opposed to government’s ‘infringement’ on federal structure of the country.

“We will press the government to change some provisions in NCTC bill so that there is no violation of nation’s federal structure,” said Mohan Singh.

The BJP and the CPI (M) on Tuesday moved four amendments in Rajya Sabha seeking assurance that the government will not move forward on the NCTC unless there is an agreement with chief ministers.
