Lucknow: The SP is emerging as the single largest party in Uttar Pradesh by leading in 190 of the total 403 seats in the assembly.

The BSP, which had won an absolute majority with 206 seats in the 2007 polls, is leading in 101 seats, whereas Congress-RLD alliance is ahead in 52 and BJP in 49 seats.

Other political parties including independents are leading in 11 seats.

Among prominent candidates BJP vice-president Kalraj Mishra in Lucknow East, Uma Bharati in Charkhari, Shivpal Singh Yadav in Jaswantnagar, Congress state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi were leading, whereas BJP state president Surya Pratap Shahi in Pathardeva and Vidhan Sabha speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar were trailing.

Wife of Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid, Louis Khurshid is trailing and was placed fourth after four rounds of counting.

In bastion of the Nehru-Gandhi family Amethi, Congress is trailing in two of the five seats, whereas in Rae Bareli the party is trailing in all five seats.

In the SP stronghold Etawah, the party is leading in all three seats.

In the state capital where BJP had been dominating from more than a decade, SP was leading in North, West and Mohanlalganj seats, cabinet minister Nakul Dubey in Bakshi ka Talab seat and Nationalist Communist Party in Malihabad.
