Lucknow: In a bid to consolidate its vote bank, Samajwadi Party is all set to play reservation card to woo Muslims in the forthcoming Assembly election. SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav has already raised the issue in Parliament.

According to sources in the party, the SP would soon hold conferences and seminars to disseminate the ideas among Muslims that their economic, political and social conditions can only be improved through reservation. "We will try to convince Muslims that it is only the SP which is concerned for them rather than the Congress," sources said.

In an interview to Dainik Jagran, Samajwadi Party leader Ahmed Hassan, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, said that the Congress has blocked the path of progress of Muslims, otherwise they would have given them the benefit of reservation.

After a spectacular performance of Congress in the Lok Sabha elections, the SP is constantly in search of issues to counter Congress. In the wake of Muslim reservation issue, the party will not only corner the Congress but also try to gain their sympathy.
