Dehradun: The Congress-led Vijay Bahuguna government in Uttarakhand will face litmus test in the elections for the Speaker of the new assembly slated on Monday.

Nominations for the Speaker will be filed on Sunday and Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Harish Rawat is expected to be present on the occasion.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is also devising a strategy to elect their candidate as the Speaker.  The party claims that they have the support of the independents and some dissatisfied legislators of the Congress.

Former minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari said, “We are yet to decide on the candidate for the polls.”

On the other hand, under the strategy to elect the Speaker, the party legislators will return to Doon valley on Sunday. The MLAs were in Madhya Pradesh recently.

BJP state president and MLA Bishan Singh Chufal said, “All the party MLAs are expected to return to Dehradun to cast their votes in election for the Speaker on March 26.”
