Jaipur:  With a view to strengthen the constitutional principles, the Speakers of different state assemblies of the country will come under one roof from September 20-24 to mark their participation in the ‘Presiding officers Programme’ at Jaipur.

The three-day-long meet will have Speakers, Deputy Speakers of State Assemblies. It will also include Chairmen and Secretaries of the Assembly councils, who will hold discussions on subjects like passing of bills and role of legislators in making laws.

Addressing a press conference, Speaker, Rajasthan Assembly, Deependra Singh Shekhawat informed that the programme will be organised within the state Assembly premises.

He said, “The first day of the programme will be dedicated to secretaries of the state Assembly and Legislative Councils. The Secretary Generals of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will also be present on the occasion. The second day will be marked by Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The programme will be inaugurated by the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.”

Shekhawat informed that on September 23, a seminar will be organised to discuss on the ways of strengthening constitutional principles of checks and balances. The seminar will be inaugurated by Chief Minister, Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot.

Before the inauguration of the programme, Lok Sabha Speaker will be felicitated with Guard of Honour.

Also, the Presiding officers meeting will have discussion on topics- ‘Determination of Maximum period for assent to bills passed by the legislature’ and ‘The role of the legislature in making laws for good governance’.

On the occasion, an exhibition on Parliamentary democracy in India will be on display. It will also include history of Rajasthan Assembly.

On the last day of the programme, the invites will go on a trip to Jaipur, Ajmer and Ranthambore.
