Chandigarh: Jail Superintendents in Punjab have been directed to make special security arrangements in the prisons on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan for enabling tying of 'rakhis' to inmates by their sisters.

They have been asked to allow sisters of inmates to tie rakhis from 9 am to 5 pm on August 2, state's Jail Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur on Tuesday said.

He said the inmates would be allowed to meet their sisters on Raksha Bandhan throughout the day and visitors would also be permitted to meet them.

Strict security norms would, however, be observed, he added.
