Chandigarh: The Punjab government has constituted a special task force to check the quality of newly constructed roads in the state.

The special task force will hold sudden inspections and ensure that only quality products are used in road construction, Punjab PWD minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said in a statement here today.

The Minister has also issued directions to the respective Chief Engineers to get the samples of products used in road construction checked by national laboratories.

"Anybody found compromising with the set standards will be dealt with severely. Maintenance of newly constructed roads will be the responsibility of contractors for a period of five years," he said.

Officials have also been directed to send a monthly report on road quality control to the minister.
