New Delhi: The fast changing political equation in Punjab has left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in an awkward position. Shiromoni Akali Dal (SAD) a trusted ally of the BJP is reportedly planning to club hands with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the forthcoming state alliance. If BSP manages to win the loyalties of SAD, it will come as a major setback to the BJP.

The speculations are even more worrying for the BJP as the issue may create problems for the saffron party in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP has strongly opposed the BSP government of UP. However, an alliance between BSP and SAD may give an impression to the voters that BJP may truck along with the BSP in UP.

Meanwhile, SAD leaders opine that an alliance with the alone BJP will fail to solve their purpose in Punjab. Therefore, the party has reflected an inclination towards the BSP. Though the BJP may benefit from the BSP-SAD alliance in Punjab, but the new political equation will pose several problems for the saffron party in UP.

For past four years, the BJP leaders have spitted venom on Mayawati led UP government over the issues of deteriorating law and order situation, corruption, crime and scams.

On several occasions, the BJP leaders have claimed that their direct fight in the state is with the BSP and the Samajwadi Party. In addition, the BJP leaders have also maintained that they would not form any alliance in UP even if they had to sit in Opposition.
