SpiceJet plane hits electric pole at IGI

New Delhi: A SpiceJet aircraft departing for Hyderabad on Thursday night hit an electric pole on the runway before take-off and damaged a wing at Delhi's IGI airport.

All the 137 passengers and 10 crew members were evacuated safely. Later, all passengers were sent through a special aircraft.

According to airport officials, Hyderabad-bound flight SG 339 was scheduled to take off at 7:45 pm. The pilot took the aircraft on taxiway and then it was brought on the runway. The aircraft was running 10 meter away from the central line on the runway while taking off. When the aircraft arrived in apron area at the 1D, its one wing got smashed into high mass light.

As soon as the authorities learnt about the incident, a rescue teams was dispatched to the spot and to help the passengers.

An inquiry has been ordered by the Aviation Ministry into the mishap. An initial investigation report suggested that the incident took place due to pilot’s negligence.

    Very poor reporting here, after the plane enters the runway for takeoff, there is no need for the crew to enter the apron area (1D) ... Wrong sequence of events as mentioned. Please get your facts right before reporting.
