United Nations (Agencies): The United Nations on Tuesday said the second wave of floods which struck Sri Lanka is worst saying that 1.1 million people have been affected by the fresh floods.

"The UN system is supporting an effort to assess the extent of the damage, as well as what the immediate relief needs are. UN agencies are already responding with a wide range of supplies, including food and medicine," said Martin Nesirky, UN spokesperson.

Nesirky added that out of the USD 50 million that had been requested in the Sri Lanka Floods Flash Appeal, USD 7.7 million had been reached.

The Flash Appeal will be revised at the end of the month.
