New Delhi: The state governments on Thursday submitted affidavits before the Supreme Court stating the detailed report of police force engaged in providing VIP security.

Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Bihar, Goa, Nagaland, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir filed affidavits before the court. In the affidavit, the states have mentioned the amount being spent on VIP security, List of people who have been provided VIP security and the criteria of providing it.

The Apex Court rapped the states that did not file their affidavits and asked them to file it within two days. If the states fail to do so, the court will summon the Chief Secretaries of the respective states.

The Supreme Court earlier criticised the culture of providing security to VIPs and also questioned the usage of beacon lights by Sarpanches, Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) and Members of Parliament (MPs).

Taking a tough stand on the issue, the apex court directed all the state governments to file affidavits on police force engaged in providing VIP security.
