Dehradun: Union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay on Thursday asked the state governments to give special emphasis on developing the tourism sector as it not only generates revenue but also provides employment to large number of people.

To achieve this the states need to focus on branding their tourist sites, said Subodh Kant Sahay while addressing a conference of tourism ministers of north-central states.

Praising Uttarakhand for being one of the hot tourist destinations, the Minister said that there are many spots here which can attract tourists in huge numbers.

To overcome the problem of skilled human wealth, states need to introduce some course in class 10th and 12th, he suggested.

“To promote hotel industry, the states should provide facilities like land bank system and single window system,” said Sahay.

“The state of tourism is in a good shape on domestic front but we have reached only halfway in attracting foreign tourists.  It needs a lot of improvement. The states need to focus on rural tourism,” added the Minister.
