Bilaspur: The Chhattisgarh High Court has directed the state government to halt work of creating new state capital site, sources said.The court gave this ruling while hearing a petition by Kisan Vikas Samiti against forceful acquisition of land by New Raipur Development Authority (NARDA) from local farmers for the creation of a new state capital.

Earlier, the court had issued notices to the state government, NARDA, Raipur Collector as well as the Union Government in this regard, the sources said.

The Kisan Vikas Samiti members alleged that under this project, lands from 61 villages were planned to be acquired. In 2007, the state government issued notification to forcibly acquire land for the purpose, which the farmers opposed; they said adding, nonetheless, some of the farmers had sold their lands due to pressure from government officials.
