Patiala: Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (Powercom) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited have been badly hit by the storm that lashed the state over the last two days.

The storm with a speed of 30 nautical miles uprooted 3000 electric poles and left 600 transformers dysfunctional.
Now the Powercom would require at least Rs 2.5 crore to repair the damage. This is when no power grid suffered any major damage.

Despite of the nature’s fury, power supply has been continued through grid bypassing.

The storms wreaked maximum damage in Patiala - headquarter of Powercom, where nine big towers of nearly 220 kv grid Bhateri came down. Ropar, Mohali and Sangrur also faced such damages.

In Firozpur, eight towers supplying electricity to a grid fell down that could take almost two weeks for repairing.
Powercom Director (Finance) Arun Verma said that the disruption of power has also resulted into revenue loss.
