New Delhi: Congress on Thursday batted for a "stringent law" to check fixing incidents in cricket to avoid their recurrence and asked for a thorough probe into IPL spot-fixing scandal.

"Whatever is happening in the world of cricket these days has hurt crores of cricket lovers. All this should be probed and those who are responsible should be punished. A system should be put in place so that such incidents are not repeated in future," party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said.

Speaking separately, party spokesperson Bhakta Charan Das said there should be a "stringent law to tackle this." "Talks are already going on between the Sports Ministry and the Law Ministry in this regard," he said.
